Dr. Patrick Young, DVM

Dr. Young is a practicing equine sports medicine veterinarian who rides cutting horses when time allows. Dr. Young came up with the concept of EOR while training for an Ironman triathlon, turns out you have a lot of time to think during 4-5 hour bike training sessions.

Dr. Young's Veterinary Practice

Dr. Patrick Young was born and raised in Texarkana, Texas, as the youngest of 10 children. Growing up in the best big family environment, made him pretty laid back with a healthy dose of common sense. “I had the best seat in the house, which made me an observational learner with a ton of humor.” He was raised in an environment that expected a great work ethic and moral code by his parents, Dr Mitchell and Donna Young. All 7 of his brothers are MDs, and his father was a General Surgeon, so Patrick's interest in medicine came naturally. Similarly, the entire family earned their Eagle Scout, and the girls the equivalent, and is a family much respected in the community. Patrick's medical journey veered from the family path towards veterinary medicine, a natural fit for his love of the outdoors and animals.

He graduated with a DVM from Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998, after doing his undergraduate work at Texas A&M in Animal Science. During his repeated failed attempts to get into Texas A&M vet school , he spent a couple of years working on a stocker cattle ranch. “I always wanted to be a cowboy and a doctor, so I became an equine veterinarian. Those years spent working on Pruet Ranch as a cowboy were the best two years of my education.” After vet school, Patrick spent several years learning with leaders in equine medicine and surgery across the south before settling in central Oklahoma to start his own practice and raise a family. He continually strives to further his education, in 2011 became Certified in animal chiropractic by the Animal Chiropractic Certification Commission of the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association to better understand the biomechanics of the horse. He also serves as attending veterinarian for local equestrian events.

Dr. Young is an avid horseman, competing in weekend cuttings on his quarter horse gelding, Farm Cat. The Young family also has raised a few of their own race thoroughbreds and warmbloods for dressage. Any spare time is spent training as a triathlete, he is a two time Ironman Finisher, and enjoys the abundance of outdoor activities in the Bend area!

Always open to innovation, in 2014 he successfully researched and licensed a new vaccine for Pigeon Fever, and is driven to find more answers to underserved animal health issues. This passion will be moved forward with the development of EOR.
